Industry experts highlight the importance of languages in the world of work to Year 9.
We were delighted to welcome, Nigel, Conah and Anya from Bank of America to help students discover just how valuable learning a language can be in today’s global workplace.
On Tuesday 24th February, our Year 9 students took part in an inspiring session exploring the many advantages of speaking an additional language, from boosting employability to unlocking exciting opportunities at university and across diverse industries such as engineering and finance.
Our guest speakers each shared their personal stories, highlighting how languages have shaped their careers and enriched their lives. Students then had the chance to quiz these industry professionals on how multilingualism supports their daily work and the meaningful ways it has helped them connect, innovate and thrive.

Students learned that speaking another language isn’t just about vocabulary, it’s about opportunity and standing out from the crowd. Employers are actively seeking multilingual candidates because they bring:
- Adaptability: A flexible, agile mind ready to tackle problems and think creatively.
- Stronger Relationships: The ability to build trust and communicate with colleagues and clients across cultures.
- A Competitive Edge: Stand-out skills that open doors to global careers and future success.
Many students reflected that they’d never realised how widely languages are used beyond traditional roles. The session gave them a fresh perspective and supported them in making informed decisions about their futures. Their feedback made it clear that multilingualism is a superpower in today’s interconnected world.
A huge thank you to Bank of America for delivering such an engaging and eye‑opening session, and for showing our students the incredible places languages can take them!
