Curtis Jobling launching new book

Queen's Park High School hosts the final stop of Curtis Jobling’s exciting book launch tour!

What a treat for our Year 7 students! On Thursday 7th May, we were delighted to welcome Curtis Jobling as the final stop on his book tour.

Our entire Year 7 cohort were joined by visiting students from The King’s School, Chester for a fantastic ‘audience with’ the renowned author, illustrator and animator, as he celebrated the launch of his brand new fantasy‑horror novel 'Red Tide', released that very day!

Curtis shared his creative journey, from studying art in Chester to pursuing his lifelong passion for drawing and storytelling. He spoke warmly about his early love of books, recalling regular trips to the library and how discovering Tolkien in Year 7 sparked his fascination with fantasy and folklore.

Students were fascinated to hear about his varied career, from designing Bob the Builder for the BBC to seeing his Wereworld series adapted for Netflix.

The session also included live sketches of some of his best known characters which Curtis later gifted to the winner of his quiz. He offered a brilliant insight into the origins of fairy tales, exploring the influence of the Brothers Grimm, before introducing ‘Red Tide’. A gripping live reading from Chapter 4 had the audience hooked, with many students eager to find out what happens next.

After the talk, students had the opportunity to purchase discounted copies of the book and meet Curtis for personalised signings.

This special visit marked the final stop on Curtis’s book launch tour and we are incredibly grateful for such an inspiring session, which has sparked a genuine excitement for reading among our students.

Our thanks also go to Suzanne from Cheshire Library Services and their partners at Nantwich Bookshop for supporting the tour, and of course to Ms MJ for organising such a fantastic event.
