Headteacher's Blog

As we approach the end of another academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been a truly successful and memorable year for our school community.

We are incredibly proud of all we have achieved together over the past twelve months. Our students continue to demonstrate outstanding commitment to their learning, and the progress they have made — both academically and personally — is something to be celebrated. I would also like to thank our dedicated staff team, whose tireless work, care, and high expectations continue to drive our school forward.

One of the highlights of the year was our recent Ofsted inspection, which was highly successful and affirmed the great work happening across the school each and every day. The inspection team recognised the strength of our curriculum, the quality of teaching, and, most importantly, the strong relationships that underpin our school community.

In addition to this, we have been working closely with the local authority to develop a new resource provision, which we believe will be a valuable and inclusive addition to our school. While we had originally hoped to open this provision sooner, it has now been confirmed that it will not open until at least Easter 2026. We remain fully committed to ensuring it is a thoughtfully planned and fully supported resource when the time comes.

Farewells & New Adventures

As always, the end of the year brings a mixture of celebration and farewells. This summer, we will be saying goodbye to a number of valued colleagues who are moving on to new adventures:

  • Miss Hazel – Teacher of ICT/Computer Science – is moving back home to Yorkshire to be closer to family.
  • Miss Gleave – Teacher of Science – is leaving teaching to work on her husband’s farm.
  • Miss Manzoor – Teacher of English – has accepted a post at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, bringing her closer to home.
  • Mr Emptage – Teacher of PE and current Head of Year 11 – is taking up a new role as a teacher of PE in Dubai.
  • Mr Gregory – Deputy Headteacher – has accepted a Deputy Headteacher position in Dubai, where he and his family will be relocating.

Each of these staff members has made a significant contribution to our school, and they will be greatly missed by students and colleagues alike. We thank them all for their dedication and service, and we wish them every success in their new roles and ventures.

Forthcoming Events:

We are looking forward to marking the end of the year with the following events:

Work Experience (Monday 14th - Friday 18th July)

Students in Years 10 and 12 will be engaged in a week’s worth of valuable work experience. Those who have not managed to secure a placement will remain in school.

Sports Afternoon (Monday 21st July)

All of our students compete in a huge range of sporting events, gaining valuable house points and supporting their House’s bid to become the overall winning House of 2024/25!

Queen’s Park Festival (Tuesday 22nd July)

As we celebrate the achievements of the year, all our students will be taking part in our Festival on the front field during the afternoon of Tuesday 22nd July. Featuring a stage with live bands, a huge range of events and activities, refreshments and games to take part in, the festival aims to be a brilliant way to end the year. We encourage students to wear their PE kits for the day. Wristbands to take part in activities and purchase items are now available from ParentMail. Each wristband has a monetary value of £2. Students who have achieved Silver, Gold or Platinum certification for their House Point accumulation this year will receive additional bonus wristbands on the day too!

Final Day (Wednesday 23rd July)

School closes for the summer holiday at 12pm. As such, the canteen will not be serving food at lunchtime. Students in receipt of Free School Meals may spend their allocation at breaktime instead. Final assemblies and tutor times will end the term with celebrations and farewell shared.

End of Year Report & PDP

In the coming week, you will receive two important pieces of information: your child’s end-of-year report, summarising their progress and achievements, and details of our Personal Development Programme (PDP) for the upcoming year. The PDP is a key part of our wider curriculum offer, focusing on skills, enrichment, wellbeing, and preparation for life beyond school. We are excited to share more about how this will benefit all students across the school.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, students return to school on Tuesday 2nd September at 8:40am. Please note that from September, we will be operating under new school day timings, as outlined below:

We hope these adjustments will further support effective learning, wellbeing, and enrichment opportunities for all students.
Thank you to all parents/carers for their continued support throughout the year. It has been a pleasure working in partnership with you, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in September, ready for another exciting chapter.

Wishing all our QPHS Family a restful and enjoyable summer break.
