Queen's Park High School Rowing Club hope to build on improvements they have already made to the site by replacing the fencing and gates that border the river path and construct gated access to the pontoon to ensure its use is solely for boating users only.

Over the past two years members of the club have raised funds to develop the area and this project is one of the final pieces of the jigsaw that will ensure all equipment stored outside is safe and secure whilst improving the overall look of the centre.

Queen’s Park High School Rowing Club is one of only four state schools in the country to have its own boathouse. The club was founded in 1946 and is now run by a very loyal group of volunteers, made up of mostly parents of current and former students and people local to the area who have rowed in their younger years whilst at the school and other rowing clubs. The club provides coached rowing sessions for students at Queen’s Park, aged 12-18 years. Currently, there are 73 students registered with the club with a large waiting list for Year 7 and 8 students eager to join.

All rowers are encouraged to compete at a local, regional and national level and have the opportunity to race all over the country. There is a big team work ethos at the club with an emphasis on all year groups working together and helping each other.

The club offers stability to all their athletes, a proportion of which come from fractured homes and low income families. The club is fully inclusive to all rowers, whether they want to compete at the highest level or just want to get away from everyday stresses and go out in a boat a few times a week.

Most of the club's rowers go onto achieve excellent academic results and continue to row after leaving school.
