Overview
Students can study Psychology as an option at both Key Stages 4 and 5. Throughout the Key Stages students study a wide variety of psychological topics from Social Influence to Psychopathology. The aim of Psychology as a subject is to broaden and deepen the student’s knowledge in describing what they know, applying their knowledge and analysing and evaluating the course specification content.
KEy Stage 4
Overview
Once the students have chosen Psychology as an option they are taught for the first time in a psychological context. We follow the AQA GCSE syllabus for Psychology 4180, examined at the end of Year 11. Psychology prepares students for these final exams with regular exam practice and opportunities to develop their research method skills throughout the course.
Students need to be confident in English with written skills and take an evaluative approach to answering questions.
The course is broken down to two areas ‘Making sense of other people’ and ‘Understanding other people’ both topics are compulsory.
Students are taught in 5 hours a fortnight.
