Modern Foreign Languages

Subject: Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
Contact: Mrs Phillips

Modern Foreign Languages at Queen’s Park High School offers an exciting and complimentary combination of modern languages.

From Key Stage 3, students are introduced to Spanish in Year 7,  8 and 9. By the end of Year 9 students can choose whether they would like to study French or Spanish in more depth for GCSE.  Languages at Queen’s Park High School are taught in an interactive and communicative manner with students being encouraged to be independent and analytical thinkers.

KEy stage 3

Students are taught in mixed ability classes in years 7, 8 and 9. Every year, all groups study translation, dictation, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through a series of topics relevant to real life. By the end of Key Stage 3, students will be prepared with basic linguistic skills to move on to GCSE.

Assessment Criteria

Please find below the assessment benchmarks for MFL. A child progresses across the grid (from A-I) when they demonstrate a deeper knowledge and wider range of skills in each assessment carried out.

Key stage 4

We follow the AQA GCSE syllabus for both French and Spanish. Both are linear courses, examined at the end of Year 11. The department prepares students for these final exams with regular exam practice and opportunities to develop key language skills, such as translation and dictation with accurate use of grammar and a wide range of application of vocabulary.
