Overview
Modern Foreign Languages at Queen’s Park High School offers an exciting and complimentary combination of modern languages.
In Year 7, students have the opportunity to study both French and Spanish before continuing in-depth study of a single language in Years 8 and 9. Students can then choose whether they would like to study French and Spanish language and culture in further detail for GCSE and A-level. Languages at Queen’s Park High School are taught in an interactive and communicative manner with students being encouraged to be independent and analytical thinkers.
KEy stage 3
Overview
Students are taught in mixed ability classes in years 7, 8 and 9. Every year, all groups study a range of vocabulary and grammar structures and learn how to apply these through the practise of essential skills such as reading, listening, translation, dictation, speaking and writing. By the end of Key Stage 3, students will be prepared with basic linguistic skills to move on to GCSE.

key stage 5
Overview
At Key Stage 5 we follow the AQA A Level syllabus for both French and Spanish. Both are linear courses, examined at the end of Year 13. Students build upon their prior learning of vocabulary and grammar to further develop their ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and deepen their understanding of the multicultural nature of Hispanic society. Students will explore topics like social issues, artistic culture and political life within the Spanish-speaking world. They will also utilise cross-curricular skills to analyse literature and film. The course emphasises developing strong language skills, independence and critical thinking, preparing students for further study or careers which require a wider knowledge of languages and cultures.
